Anthropic Files to List, With Revenue Up Twelvefold and a 42bn Dollar Paper Loss

Anthropic has filed an S-1 ahead of a public listing, with the offering pointed at the period after the United States congressional elections. The figures circulating come from Reuters' reading of the filing, relayed by the Venture Capital channel, and three of them are worth separating out.

Twelvefold, twelve percent, forty-two billion

Revenue rose twelvefold in 2025. That is the number that will carry the listing, and it is the least interesting of the three.

The two largest customers each account for 12 percent of revenue. A quarter of the top line sitting with two counterparties is concentration of the kind that normally earns a risk-factor paragraph and a discount. For a company selling inputs to other companies' products, it also means the revenue line is only as durable as two commercial relationships.

The reported GAAP net loss of 42 billion dollars for FY25 sits against cash operating losses of roughly 8 billion dollars. The gap — some 34 billion dollars — is accounting for instruments convertible into Anthropic shares, not money that left the building. Read the GAAP figure as a measure of how expensive the company's own equity has become, not of how fast it is burning.

The valuation discussed is above 2 trillion dollars.

The read from here

For anyone in Addis building on these models, the relevant line is the cash burn, not the headline loss. Roughly 8 billion dollars a year of real operating deficit, funded by capital markets, is what currently sits behind the price of frontier inference. A listing changes who funds that deficit and how visible it is — and public shareholders have historically been less patient with subsidised pricing than private ones.
