Three Ethiopian technology firms — ZERGAW Cloud, VP Solutions and Nuna Ethiopia — launched four locally hosted cloud products on 10 October: ZERGAW Marketplace, ZERGAW Shared Hosting, VPZ Quat and AddisLedger.
Why local hosting is the point
For an Ethiopian business, the obstacle to running on the cloud has rarely been the technology. It has been paying for it. International providers bill in dollars, on a card, monthly — three things that are harder to arrange here than anywhere the pricing pages assume. A shared hosting plan payable in birr to a company with an Addis address removes a procurement problem, not an engineering one.
Latency and data residency follow. A service hosted in-country answers faster to in-country users, and keeps records inside Ethiopian jurisdiction, which matters increasingly to anyone handling customer data under local rules.
Four products, one bet
The four launches read as a stack rather than a scatter: a marketplace, shared hosting, a product named VPZ Quat, and AddisLedger. That three firms launched together on one day suggests a deliberate push at the same customer — the small Ethiopian business that has never had a credible domestic alternative — rather than three unrelated releases.
Open
Pricing, capacity, the data-centre locations behind the services, and what each of VPZ Quat and AddisLedger actually does were not detailed in the launch coverage. Nor is the division of labour among the three firms clear. Those details decide whether this is a real alternative to the international providers or a reseller layer in front of them.
